Blame Simon Cowell for Brexit

Ok, my turn to share my views on the EU referendum result.
Firstly, I blame Simon Cowell - that might sound like a joke statement and it partly is, as it's not his fault directly, but what he represents.
We live in a society where everyone has an view and can exercise their opinions on matters they have limited knowledge or understanding, but are somehow made to believe by the media that they are the experts. Since when did the average guy/gal on the street understand the workings of the music industry or what makes a great ballroom dancer, but everyone is an expert and casts their votes in millions weekly, as if they were. Without comprehending that most of those shows are rigged with known planted talent.
This is further fuelled by social media which gives everyone a platform, but worse allows many to be taken in by ill-informed speakers.
So is it any wonder people voted for Brexit, something that the masses don't understand (and frankly not many of us can claim to truly understand ALL of the complexities). People were brainwashed with scare tactics built on naive prejudices, radicalised into a political mission fuelled by lies and blurred facts by the media and a few appalling politicians.
I understand that people in some parts of the country are crying out for change, I get that. But statements like "I voted for brexit to get the Muslins out" kind of sums it up. Something that is so incorrect and so misplaced I struggle to know where to start in my response.
Or people in the regions that rely heavily on EU exports voting in their thousands to leave, ignoring the fact that they were quite possibly signing the death warrant on their own jobs and livelihoods.
It's examples like these two (and there are dozens more circulating) that just prove my point that people have been sold a pack of lies and convinced that to best way to fix an ingrowing toenail is to have your leg removed.
In hindsight, I really think the public should not have been given the direct vote on this. Least of all without some kind of proportional representation - not that I know how that would even work.
Some say it's been a victory for democracy, that might be true, but it's a horrendous result for politics!!
